While we’re all waiting for BarCamp day to get here there’s still lots of stuff going on behind-the-scenes to make it all possible. Sending sponsorship requests, organizing swag mail, contacting vendors, designing and distributing marketing, and tons more. Our volunteer staff is working constantly to make sure BarCamp Jonesboro is all we want it to be.

One of the many things we are working on is the designing/developing of a custom mobile app for the event day which can be used by both iPhone and Android users. Using the amazing mobile development platform (and one of our sponsors!), Titanium by Appcelerator, we are able to design a single app which will work on both iPhone and Android platforms.

Once released to the public, the BarCamp Jonesboro app will allow you to keep up with what is going on leading up to event day and on the day of the event you’ll have a host of features available to you. Here’s a preview of those:

Agenda/Schedule – View the schedule for the day as it is decided. Since the agenda for the event is crowd-sourced, most of the presentations will be decided upon while we are there. To aid you in deciding which presentation to run to next, all of the details will be available in the palm of your hand.

Sponsors – Without our sponsors, this event would be much less cool and hosted in a 700 sq.ft. room.  So, we wanted to not only give them their very own tab in the app, but also allow the BarCampers who would like to thank some of the sponsors to do so via a tweet from right inside the app. We’ll pre-fill the important info and you add your own thank you message.

Tweets – Via the built-in twitter tab, you can monitor live tweets using our #BCJonesboro hastag, as well as add tweets to the stream from your own account.

Photos – In addition to viewing the live twitter stream, you can also use this tab to view a stream of photos from your fellow campers and take/upload your own photos. Wondering what is going on in the other rooms? Check out the photo tab and find out.

Maps – As you can see in the screenshot above, campers will have access to driving directions, a map of the ASU campus, and maps of the first and second floor of the main building for BarCamp Jonesboro.

There you have it. Pretty cool, eh? Well, we’ve got to get back to work on this app, so stay tuned to this site for the announcement of the app launching it the mobile marketplaces! Have you registered yet?!
